Transfer
Since it was used by Barack Obama’s presidential election in 2008, the phrase “Yes we can” has become extremely widespread. This meme, however, transfers the feelings felt towards Hitler onto President Obama by having Obama’s catchphrase written underneath Hitler’s picture. Currently a large portion of the United States have very negative emotions about Hitler and his name has become synonymous with ‘Nazi,’ ‘fascism,’ and ‘genocide.’ By the tendency to make it feel as if Hitler is saying the words of Obama, it generates an unfavorable impression on Barack Obama. This makes the picture an exemplification of the Transfer technique as it transfers the appalled feelings felt about one thing (Hitler) onto another thing (Obama).
