Bandwagon
Propaganda is always prominent in society; Yet, propaganda gets a bigger role during wars, when citizens of a country have to believe the necessity and importance of the clash. One such example of propaganda during wartime is the picture shown above. This advertisement was made during World War II to encourage citizens to purchase war bonds, which are basically meant to be donations to the war effort. The advertisement uses a propaganda technique called Bandwagon which creates a feeling of unity and peer pressure by persuading the viewer that the majority is doing a certain action. It (the advertisement) depicts an Allied soldier with a bayonet, charging into battle with the words “Let’s ALL Fight” inscribed in front of the soldier, and various men and women of varying occupations, all supporting him from behind. This advertisement clearly conveys that we’re all in the fight together, that everyone else has already contributed to the cause, and that now others must take part of help as well, by buying war bonds. The emphasis on the fact that everybody is helping is proof that this is an example of Bandwagon technique-filled propaganda. Propaganda that uses this technique, along with propaganda that uses Emotional Appeal, is especially popular during wars as it strengthens national pride, not just an individual.
